This week was entirely devoted to Tesla: Tesla security, Tesla's success, Tesla's payload and Tesla's ratings. Our intrepid reader, owner, pilot and former Tesla statistician has updated his Tesla accident rate analysis with autopilot. The news is good, but not as good as one would expect.
We examine what distinguishes Tesla and its effects on the electric car industry.
Tesla has announced a significant change for Model 3 in Europe–this requires updates of all superchargers on the continent.
And the company has begun to roll out a new track mode for Model 3 Performance cars.

The North American CEO of Tesla's battery supplier, Panasonic, said he was thinking about solid-state batteries–considered the next big step forward in lithium batteries–can not get into cars before 10 years.
A new report by investment firm Lazard shows that utilities can save money by building new large solar and wind plants to replace older coal plants.
And the data shows that half a million electric cars will have been sold in California by the end of November.

Several automakers have been discussing or hinting at the cars that they will show at the Los Angeles auto show this month. Subaru will present the new Crosstrek Hybrid, which, according to California documents, will certainly not have a range greater than 25 miles.
Toyota has alluded to a new hybrid version of its steadfast Corolla to join the Prius in the company's hybrid lineup for 2020.
And the American start-up Rivian is mocked by new images of his electric pickup and his promised SUV. Hopefully we'll know more about when the company hopes to start selling it at the official unveiling scheduled later this month.

VW has increased the stake on the automakers of other automakers by announcing its intention to build 50 million electric cars. Later in the week, VW clarified this as an anomaly of its CEO, which meant just 15 million vehicles. In both cases, it is the more than $ 50 billion in spending that even Tesla might find it hard to match.
When we announced our best car to buy for 2019, few people were surprised that Tesla Model 3 beat its electric competitors. We were not surprised either when we asked our Twitter followers what car they would have chosen and they made the same decision.
