Tesla seems to have tried a number of new delivery methods to increase model 3 shipments by the end of the quarter.
The automaker is now starting Model 3 "immediate deliveries" on a "first come, first served" basis.
It follows yesterday's report about Tesla's organization of a large-scale delivery event at its Fremont delivery center.
While hosting the event, Tesla began sending e-mails to day-3 model reservation holders about similar opportunities in the order markets.
We have received reports from all over the United States and Canada.
Tesla writes in the e-mail:
"We have a limited number of model 3 rear-drive vehicles on display that are available for immediate delivery.
As the holder of the first day of booking, you are invited to take advantage of this opportunity on the basis of the first com, first served.
We will send this invitation to the new Model 3 reservation holders on Monday, September 10th. "
As previously reported, Tesla produced model 3 rear-wheel drive vehicles that were not custom-made for Model 3 buyers, which was the case so far.
They have tried to match these vehicles to the current orders of the Model 3 buyers.
But in the case of this new offer sent by e-mail today, it has also been sent to several model 3 reservation holders who have not yet placed an order. These are mainly people who are waiting for the $ 35,000 basic version with the standard battery.
All of these new initiatives come as Tesla attempts to produce and deliver a record number of vehicles this quarter, particularly with the ramp-up of model 3 production and deliveries.
Tesla led production of 50,000 to 55,000 Model 3 vehicles in the third quarter and more deliveries.
As we announced last month, Tesla has put in place a new delivery organization to handle the excessive workload of model 3 deliveries.
Electrek's Take
This new delivery organization seems to offer rather aggressive strategies to increase deliveries.
They do not want to go through scheduling delivery appointments, which, as we recently pointed out, can be a nightmare.
I can understand why they are doing it to increase shipments by the end of the quarter, but I do not see how that will translate into longer delays for some Model 3 buyers waiting for their car.
