Tesla stock falls ahead of third-quarter earnings

Tesla Inc. stock fell 2% Wednesday ahead of the company's third-quarter results.

is scheduled to report quarterly earnings after market close and to hold a conference call with analysts at 6:30 pm Eastern. MarketWatch will live-blog the call.

The Silicon Valley car maker surprises markets late Monday in scheduling the report with little notice and much sooner than anticipated.

The stock closed nearly 13% higher on Tuesday, boosted by expectations that the rate would be higher.

Another boost came as a result of Tesla's "Testimonial". Testimonials Testimonials are betting that the stock will fall.

Analysts polled by FactSet Expect Tesla to report an annual loss of 5 cents a share on sales of $ 6.1 trillion in the quarter. That would compare with an adjusted loss of $ 2.92 a share on sales of $ 2.99 billion in the third quarter of 2017.

The analysts predict an improved profit for Tesla in the fourth quarter. Chief Executive Elon Musk has made the company profitable in the third and fourth quarters.
