Tesla will start production of trucks by 2020: report

According to a new report, Tesla is expected to start producing its fully electric semi-trailer semi-trailers by 2020.

This information was provided by Martin Viecha, Investor Relations Manager at Tesla, during a tour given to investors last month. Two Worm Capital investors recounted the Nevada Gigafactory tour on a blog, where Viecha said Tesla would be looking to export its 3 models abroad next year and would start producing "seriously" semi-trailers from here 2020.

CEO Elon Musk had already said that the company would start production in 2019.

A large number of companies have already placed orders for the truck that has not yet been produced. In December, PepsiCo booked 100 new electric vehicles. In March, the courier giant FedEx said it ordered 20 trucks.

Walmart, UPS and Sysco also placed pre-orders.

Tesla unveiled the all-electric trucks in November, which will cost between $ 150,000 and $ 180,000.

Musk said he planned to produce up to 100,000 electric trucks a year.

The new vehicles should use many of the same parts as the model 3, said Musk during a conference call last year, including the engines.

However, Tesla had to deal with some production issues regarding its Model 3 sedan, which is essential for the company's project to introduce electric vehicles to the mass market.
