Tesla's new Summon feature turns cars into giant RC cars

When Elon Musk connects to Twitter, you're never quite sure what's going to happen. Fortunately for the owners of Tesla, his recent tweets only revealed a new feature coming in the range of vehicles. According to muskTeslas will soon have an Advanced Summoning feature to control the car even when you're not behind the wheel.

Musk has always talked about a great game when it comes to his cars, and the latter is no exception. According to Tesla's CEO, the Summoning feature will allow some vehicles to travel to the owner's phone location. According to Musk, he will even follow them "like a pet" if the car owner pushes the Summon button from the Tesla app.

Just in case your car reflects each of your movements would not be enough, Musk has added an extra feature: the ability to remotely control the vehicle when you're not sitting. As long as you are in the line of sight of the car, you can control it remotely from your phone. Musk said it would be like having a "big RC car".

At least one person has already used the Summoning feature to move their car. Shawn Kennedy posted a video on Twitter this showed him moving his car from one car park to another to avoid a ticket in spaces limited to two hours. Kennedy moves the car from the comfort of his office several floors above the street.

Invocation, along with any accompanying doorbell that accompanies it, would be available in the next six weeks, by Musk tweets. It will arrive via an over-the-air software upgrade. This means that Tesla's owners will sleep one night and wake up the next morning with a car that can follow them. Summon will be available on most Tesla models in the last two years. As long as the car is equipped with the advanced driver assistance system (usually called autopilot) or the upgrade version called autopilot upgraded, it will be able to get the update from the invocation.
