Texas City slams Cruz, Beto challenger O 'Rourke, on his "false" defense of kneeling NFL athletes

Authorities in a small Texas town passed a resolution condemning US Senate hope Beto O'Rourke over recent comments on NFL athletes kneeling at the national anthem.

Reno City Council said in the resolution passed earlier this week that it "disrespects and disgraces veterans, military and first responders in the United States of America."

The Council felt that the anthem was a time when "all should be ready to recognize and honor the sacrifice they made to our country," the Star-Telegram reported.

Officials have also criticized O'Rourke, who is attempting to overthrow Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in a high-risk election in November, saying his comments on the NFL's kneeling coins are "fake."

The Democrat had previously defended athletes who kneel during the National Anthem to protest racial injustice.

"Not violently, peacefully, while the eyes of this country are watching these games, they are kneeling down to draw our attention and attention to this problem to make sure we fix it," said O. Rourke. "I can not think of anything more American than getting up or kneeling for your rights, anytime, anywhere, any place."

According to counsel, however, O'Rourke's comments are not legitimate.

"Reno City Council considers that kneeling during the United States National Anthem of America is not only non-American but also one of the highest forms of disrespect … "

"Reno City Council considers that kneeling during the United States National Anthem of America is not only non-American, but also one of the greatest lack of respect towards anyone can sacrifice and serve the military, veterans and first responders of our country. "Said the resolution.

Democratic hope has responded cautiously to the resolution adopted by the council.

"I am grateful to all those who put their lives at risk for this country, to all members of the law enforcement community and to each of our first responders," he told the newspaper.

"I am grateful to all those who engage in discussions and actions to ensure the full enjoyment of the civil rights of every American," he added.

Reno Mayor Eric Hunter reiterated Council's position in an interview with Hill, saying their resolution represented the city's feelings at OW Rourke's comments.

"My main point was that Mr. [O’Rourke] is wrong, there are many other things that we can do more American than to show such disrespect towards our veterans and our country, "said Mr. Hunter.

"Although everyone has the right to kneel and I defend this right, we also have the right to say that their protest method is disrespectful. We have four veterans, including myself, and I think we would all agree on that, "he added.
