Texas College Football Rankings: A New Number 1, Again

Each week, during the college football season, Houston Houston writer Joseph Duarte ranks the 12 schools of the Texas State Football Subdivision:

1. Texas (3-1) | Last week: 4
The Longhorns have won two consecutive victories against ranked teams (Southern Cal and TCU) for the first time since winning three consecutive victories in 2008.

2. Texas Tech (3-1) | Last week: 5
Real-life freshman Alan Bowman is 3-0 as a starting quarterback after the Oklahoma State defeat.

3. North Texas (4-0) | Last week: 3
Mean Green started for the first time 4-0 since 1966.

4. Texas A & M (2-2) | Last week: 1
After almost defeating No. 2 Clemson, the Aggies clung to Alabama for half of their way to a 22-point loss.

5. TCU (2-2) | Last week: 2
Quarterback Sophomore Shawn Robinson had five consecutive turnovers against Ohio State and Texas.

6. Houston (3-1) |Last week: 6
The Cougars rebounded after Texas Tech's loss with the 70-14 loss to FCS Texas Southern.

7. Baylor (3-1) | Last week: 7
The bears continue to surprise with the victory over Kansas. Next: Oklahoma.

8. SMU (1-3) | Last week: 9
Sonny Dykes gets his first victory as the Mustangs survive in overtime against the Navy to take first place in the AAC West.

9. Rice (1-3) | Last week: 8
Since his first match, Owls has awarded 45, 43 and 40 points in three consecutive losses.

10. UTSA (1-3) | Last week: 11
The Roadrunners improve to 3-0 against Texas State.

11. Texas State (1-3) | Last week: 10
A breakaway in the opening series was returned for a touchdown – and that was not much better for the losing Bobcats against UTSA.

12. UTEP (0-4) | Last week: 12
It's been 666 days since the Miners won a game for the last time.
