Texas grandmother kills giant alligator for eating horse

A grandma killed a 580 pound alligator that she said was responsible for eating her miniature horse – and now aims to turn her price tag into a pair of boots.

"A shot in the head and he just fell," is Judy Cochran's vaunted USA Today.

Cochran, 73, sought revenge for the 12-foot swamp creature for swallowing his equine pet three years ago on his ranch in Goodrich, Texas, according to the Houston Chronicle.

"We think it's the parent who ate one of our miniature horses several years ago. As big as this gator was, he could easily eat it, "said Cochran, who used a road raccoon on Sunday to lure the beast. "As a rule, the indicators do not bother us, but we were looking for [this one]. "

Gator hunting in Polk County is permitted between September 10 and September 30, but hunters must have a license and the animal must first be hung.

"We do not just go to the ranch and hunt a gator," said Cochran, who was recently elected mayor of Livingston, a small town north of Houston.

Gator hunt in the family. In 2009, Cochran's grandson, then 5-year-old Simon Hughes, shot a gator in the same pond that was even bigger – 800 pounds and over 12 feet long, the Chronicle reported.

Cochran said that each part of the reptile will be put to use by a local taxidermist.

"We are going to eat the meat, have the head up and have the back of the tail in my office," she said. "We will have tanned skin to make boots, you can only make boots from the belly."

Cochran has a lot to boast about apart from her massive killing – she is also a newly created grandmother.

"Do not mess with Nana!" She joked.
