A Texas man is being treated for injuries he sustained after trapping his home using shotgun cartridges, officials said.

Members of the Harris County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for discharge weapons at approximately 1:30 pm Tuesday in Tomball, northwest of Houston. They said they met a 73-year-old "disoriented" man at home who was shouting "danger in the house".

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the unidentified man appeared to have "bullet-type injuries to his body" from a trap. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital, reported Fox 26.

It's unclear why the man trapped his home, but officials say he could face charges for handling the house with explosives, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Gonzalez said that as a deputy tried to enter the house and help the injured man, he encountered a second discharge of "some type".

"We do not know if the door was trapped or someone pulled from inside," he said.

The assistant who tried to help the man would have been slightly injured by unloaded fragments.
