Texas officials who expected to receive a shipment of bananas last week instead found the fruit – plus a lot of cocaine.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice announced Friday that two of its officers had discovered nearly $ 18 million of the drug hidden in a shipment of bananas sent to the state.
"Sometimes life gives you lemons. Sometimes it gives you bananas, "the department wrote in a Facebook post and a series of photos documenting their unusual discovery.
Forty-five boxes of bananas were donated to the "because of their maturity" department at a company in Freeport, Texas.
However, after two sergeants went to pick up the load on Friday morning, they "discovered something that was not right," according to state officials. "One of the boxes was different from the others."
And once they opened the box, the sergeants quickly figured out what the problem was.

According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the Drug Enforcement Agency and US Customs are investigating this incident.
Jeremy Desel, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, told local television channel KTRK that their agents "are trained to notice things that do not look right."
"They are doing their job, not just in our units, but elsewhere, and they have found something good today," Desel said.

The banana donation is not the first discovery of cocaine in an unlikely place.
