A Texas policeman was in the "fight of his life" after being seriously injured during a shootout with three flight suspects in Fort Worth on Friday morning, authorities said.

The undercover officer was rushed to the hospital by a police vehicle while fellow officers tried to keep him alive, said Forth Worth Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald. The police tweeted that the policeman "was fighting bravely" while he was staying at the ICU "in critical condition".

"One of our heroes has been hit tonight and we're praying for him," Fitzgerald said.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said the officer was in the "fight of his life" and asked citizens to pray for him, his family and his colleagues.

The officer was shot dead while attempting to arrest the suspects, who were trying to rob a bar under the threat of a firearm while customers were still inside, said the chief of police. police, Joel Fitzgerald. A suspect was killed on the scene when the police fired back and the two others were arrested.

Sgt. Chris Britt said that a team of at least 10 officers was monitoring three suspects on Thursday night. The trio would be responsible for a series of flights in the Fort Worth area, he added.

The team followed the suspects to a bar, which they tried to rob under the threat of a gun, the police said. When the police confronted the suspects, at least one suspect shot and hit the undercover agent.

The police fired back, killing a man suspected of firing shots. We did not know how many shots had been fired. No customer inside the bar was hurt.

A suspicious woman was arrested at the scene, while a second suspect man escaped. The police then found and arrested the man, police said.

Authorities said the suspects were being investigated on at least 15 robberies in Fort Worth, adding that other acts could have been committed outside the city.
