Kerwin Roach II scored a career high of 32 points to guide Texas beyond North Carolina.

Thanks to a remarkable performance by senior Kerwin Roach II, Texas won Thursday's 92-89 win over No. 7 North Carolina at the Las Vegas Invitational.

Roach came out hot in the first half, scoring 18 points on a 32-point career high, while scoring 6 of 8 goals on the field to help the Longhorns build a 43-42 lead at the break. He also scored five assists to help his team overcome a 17-4 hole early.

While Roach propelled Texas, Coby White kept the Tar Heels in the fight for the first 20 minutes with 20 points.

Texas seemed to be moving away in the second half, but North Carolina would not let it happen.

The Longhorns kept the lead throughout the second half and pushed their advantage to 10 points several times over the period. But, with the help of Nassir Little, a white and very popular first year student, the Tar Heels remained at hand.

Little finished the game with 11 points – all in the last 11 minutes of the game. White added 13 points after half-time, including three more three points to give him seven points.

But in the end, North Carolina had no answer to give to Roach, who shot 12-15 with seven assists, six rebounds and four steals. Jaxson Hayes provided 15 points on a 5-on-5 shot and nine rebounds on the bench.

With this victory, Texas went to 5-0 the season while North Carolina dropped to 5-1. The Longhorns will play the winner of the No. 11 Michigan State against No. 17 UCLA on Friday. The Tar Heels will face the loser of this match.
