A Dallas woman who was resuscitated after undergoing plastic surgery at a clinic in Mexico in October passed away Saturday, her family said.

Laura Avila, from El Paso but now residing in Dallas, went to the Rhinocenter Surgery Center in Cuidad Juarez on October 30 to get a nose job, according to GoFundMe, of the family.

She never woke up.

"Unbeknownst to her fiancee, Laura suffered a cardiac arrest for four minutes," said GoFundMe. "She was then placed in a coma caused by medical reasons to avoid further damage to her brain caused by the complications she suffered during anesthesia."

Her sister, Angie Avila, said Saturday that her sister had died Saturday morning at 8:30 am after being in a coma for almost a month.

"My heart hurts, and I really do not know how or if I will ever overcome this pain," wrote Angie Avila in a Facebook post.

After undergoing surgery in October, Laura Avila spent six days in an intensive care unit in Mexico before being transferred to a hospital in El Paso. She had seizures due to brain damage.

It was not until Avila's family paid the full hospital bill in Mexico that her doctors transferred her to a hospital in El Paso, her family said on GoFundMe. They hired lawyers in Juarez to obtain Laura's complete medical records.

The family fundraiser for Avila raised about $ 80,000 from a target of $ 150,000 on Saturday afternoon. The family said that medical expenses amounting to $ 25,000 had been incurred in Juarez and that the entire family had been out of work for weeks in Avila.
