DETROIT (AP) – Aretha Franklin's family traveled to Ford Mustang to pay tribute to the music, and a high school band played their music on Thursday at the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit.

Thousands of spectators lined up on the three-mile (4.8 km) road in freezing temperatures along Woodward Avenue, Thursday morning, from Midtown to downtown for the 92nd edition of the parade. The event included 26 tanks.

The band of Cass Tech High School has interpreted the success of Franklin. Franklin's son, Eddie Franklin, and his niece, Sabrina Owens, traveled in separate Mustangs.

"We were honored to be invited to be part of a Detroit tradition," Owens told The Associated Press. "Aretha loved the holiday season, so it was great for the family to be able to represent her."

Other tributes to the Queen of the Soul include a routine of the Mid American Pompon All Star Team.

"We just wanted to (honor Franklin) with a touch of class," said Tony Michaels, president and CEO of The Parade Company, in the Detroit News newspaper on Wednesday.

Franklin, who spent most of his life in Detroit and surrounding areas, died on August 16 at the age of 76.

The sportsman Jim Nantz was grand marshal. Other celebrities include Jack Morris, former Detroit Tiger pitcher, Detroit Tiger, Disney Channel's Sofia Wylie and Olympic snowboarder Kyle Mack.
