Toyota has placed seven vehicles on the list, more than any other manufacturer, and took first place with its Lexus GX SUV. Consumer Reports said the GX was fast and quiet for an SUV, offering a smooth ride and a comfortable cab.

Toyota and Lexus also ranked for the sixth year in a row among the two most trusted brands in Consumer Reports. Lexus took first place with an average reliability score of 78 out of 100, and Toyota ranked second with a reliability score of 76.

"Lexus is an excellent example of the reliability of luxury vehicles at the cutting edge of technology," Consumer Reports said.

None of the American manufacturers was on the list of the most reliable cars, the other three places being occupied by Mazda, Kia and Honda. US manufacturers took six of the 10 spots on Consumer Reports' list of least reliable vehicles, reflecting the poor performance of US manufacturers on the list of the most reliable brands in the publication. American manufacturers accounted for nine of the 10 least reliable brands, and none were in the top 15.
