The singer, who came out as weird in his Rolling stone cover story, opted for a frilly dress with a tiered skirt, fluffy, and rainbow hues. The colors clearly and obviously represented the colors of the flag of pride.
The singer and the actor recently grabbed the headlines by wearing vagina pants in her "Pynk" clip. While we hoped in some way that she would resurrect these funds for the red carpet or for her performance, her pre-show attire was just as meaningful.
Since Monáe often has fun with costumes that highlight her fly style and that we can rely on red lips that glide over the glamor of Old Hollywood, we also expected her to go with a two-piece set or a jumpsuit paired with a scarlet pout. But she chose an epic dress that showed her pride.
It was a flawless execution of a message!
Monáe's hair was swept from her face in a low ponytail, while her makeup presented her familiar red lips. Monáe has been CoverGirl's spokesperson for years – so it's no wonder that her makeup is always fabulous.

At the 2016 edition of the show, Monáe crushed a black and white striped suit with flared legs and a top hat. Do not you dig how the stripes change direction on the lower half of his pants? It was a simple but effective touch. His full curls were also very lush.

The 2015 performance of the singer's BET Awards was distinctly different. She opted for anything-but-basic black, adding a long sweeping floor cape to her fitted LBD. The cloak added a significant dose of drama, but it still showed its toned legs, which were accentuated by snake-like strappy heels.
