The abuse of clergy is no longer on the agenda as the pope opens the Vatican youth meeting

A one – month meeting of Catholic bishops from around the world begins Wednesday at the Vatican. Pope Francis opened the meeting Wednesday morning with the aim of bringing young people back to church. Before we even started, the meeting was criticized by some church leaders because clerical sex abuse is not officially on the list – although it is very important for the meeting.

Pope Francis told the bishops Wednesday morning that youth should have a future free from mistakes and sins of the past. The synod, or meeting, brings together nearly 300 church leaders from nearly 125 countries. The Vatican has acknowledged the "lack of harmony" of young people with the church. Thus, these people – mostly elderly – interviewed young Catholics and will address topics that resemble Google's story of a teenager: video games, migration, LGBT issues, war, friendship, pornography and corruption.

Victims of sexual abuse take advantage of this unusual concentration of bishops to express themselves. Four survivors of sexual assault committed by hearing-impaired stressed priests who had abused them at the Antonio Provolo Institute for the Deaf in Verona, Italy. They plan to demonstrate at the Vatican on Wednesday.

"I was naked and confused," said Gianni Bisoli, CBS News correspondent Seth Doane. His assaults began at nine years old.

Giuseppe Consiglio stated that he was ill-treated in the confessional. When allegations surfaced, some of Italy's predatory priests were transferred to another school for the hard of hearing in Argentina – where they abused more children.

"I would like to scream and cry because of the pain," Alessandro Vantini told Doane. He said no one could hear it because everyone was deaf.

These sexual abuses want the church to recognize the crimes and compensate the victims, but they claim that dealing with the Vatican was like talking to a wall.
