The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced its new "popular" Oscar "deserves further study" and will not present the new category at the upcoming 91st Academy Awards.

The organization said that "while remaining committed to the celebration of a wide range of films," she acknowledged that the implementation of new prices nine months into the year "creates challenges for films already out.

The AMPAS Board of Directors will continue to actively participate in the discussions and will be seeking feedback on the upcoming category.

"The introduction of a new award has sparked many reactions and we recognize the need to continue discussions with our members," said Dawn Hudson, CEO of the Academy. "We have made changes to the Oscars over the years, including this year, and we will continue to evolve while respecting the incredible legacy of the past 90 years."

Other changes planned for the 91st Oscars (2019) will progress, including restructuring and reducing the broadcast time to three hours. To honor the 24 award categories, six to eight categories will be presented live at the Dolby Theater during commercial breaks. The winning moments will then be edited and broadcast later in the broadcast. The selected categories will be rotated each year. The Academy will work with the show producer (s) to select these categories.
