Selma Blair said Saturday that she had recently been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and had explained how her illness had "disabled her."

The actress "Legally Blonde" said in a message posted on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with central nervous system disease on August 16, although she said she had symptoms during years.

"I am disabled," wrote the 46-year-old. "I'm giving up things, my memory is foggy, and my left side is asking for instructions from a broken GPS."

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, as well as between the brain and the body, according to the National MS Society . Common symptoms include fatigue, difficulty walking, and vision problems.

Blair, who is filming a new show on Netflix, said she was struggling to dress, walk and even play with her son. However, she said that she was doing well.

Blair thanked the cast and crew of the new series, along with his friends and family for their support, saying "we do it … I do not know exactly what I'm going to do, but I'll do my best".

Blair has already faced health problems, battling alcoholism, depression and anxiety after moving to Los Angeles 20 years ago. In June, the actress celebrated two years of sobriety.

"Two sober years, two years to feel everything and nothing. Two years of extreme gratitude, humility and grace," wrote the actress on Instagram. "I thank the Lord and my friends."
