An illegal immigrant from Mexico, accused of murdering Mollie Tibbetts, a 20-year-old university student from Iowa, went under another name while working on a farm. dairy.
Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, was known as John Budd while working for Yarrabee Farms, according to the Associated Press.
Three people with information about the suspect's employment confirmed the name used to hire and pay for him while he was on the farm. They spoke under cover of anonymity because they were not allowed to disclose the information during an ongoing criminal investigation.
Official government documents have also shown the pseudonym of John Budd, a source told the chain.

The news of the reported nickname comes weeks after Tibbetts' body was found in an Iowa cornfield and Rivera was charged with murder. She had disappeared since July 18th.
In the midst of the August 21 discovery, authorities said Rivera, who lived in rural Poweshiek County, was being held in a federal detention center. He thought he had been in the area for four or seven years.
Yarrabee Farms, who had previously said Rivera had been working there for four years, would not confirm to The Associated Press whether or not John Budd had gone to work.
When hired on the farm in 2014, Rivera presented an out-of-state photo. and the social security number, the farm officials said, adding that until his arrest, they thought the documents were his.

"We learned that our employee was not what he said," said Aug. 22, the co-owner and manager of Yarrabee Farms, Dane Lang.
Lori Chesser, an immigration lawyer advising the farm, told the Associated Press that the farm had met the legal requirements to review the documents and determined that they appeared authentic and related to the person presenting them. "To question a name or other characteristic would be contrary to the anti-discrimination provisions of the law."
During his employment, the suspect was also called and answered the name he used in the recruitment process, said Mr. Chesser.
The farm did not use a federal E-Verify check on Rivera, Lang said, clarifying a previous comment. The E-Verify system allows companies to confirm the identity and eligibility of employees to work in the United States.
