Two people were shot dead Thursday when shots were fired at a Jack in the Box near a high school chartered in Van Nuys, leading to the search of the school building and neighborhood.

Los Angeles police said they had received a report of a shootout, possibly in the restaurant's driving area, near the CHAMPS Charter High School. Neighboring streets were closed for investigation in block 6800 Van Nuys Boulevard.

The details of the victims, identified only as women, were not immediately available. Two men were wanted in connection with the shooting, which LAPD agents claimed did not take place on campus.

The school was blocked during the search. At least one person has been detained.
