Ken Giles, who had 34 saves for world champion Houston Astros last season, was sent to Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday.
The right-hander allowed three runs without recording an out in Houston 6-5, an extra win against Oakland on Tuesday. When manager A.J. Hinch pulled him out of the game, Giles mumbled what seemed like an expletive as he was leaving the mound. Asked about it after the match, Hinch says he'll have to ask Giles if it's for him
Giles has 12 saves but a 4.99 ERA this season after posting a 2.30 ERA last season.
Giles The troubles go back to the playoffs last season. He was 0-2 with a 11.74 ERA in 7⅔ innings. He awarded five earned runs in the first round in the World Series against the Dodgers.
The Astros recalled the LHP Cionel Perez of Double A Corpus Christi on Wednesday.
Brad Peacock and Chris Devenski for Houston, but the Astros also have Will Harris, Hector Rondon and Joe Smith in the bullpen.
The Astros were 30 games over .500 and had a four-game lead in West AL entering Wednesday's play.
