The chance to play for the Atlanta Falcons, his hometown, was too much for Bruce Irvin.
Less than a week after being released by the Oakland Raiders, Irvin signed Wednesday a one – year contract with the Falcons.
Irvin, a former coach of the first round, told ESPN's Vaughn McClure that he had rejected the more lucrative offers of the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers. The financial terms of his contract with the Falcons have not been disclosed.

The Falcons have plans to play against Irvin, who was released by the Raiders last Saturday in Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns, said a source to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
As a result of this deal, Irvin will return to head coach Dan Quinn, who spent two seasons coordinating Irvin defenders with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013-14.
"We know exactly how Bruce will fit into our field team and just as importantly in our locker room," Quinn told the Falcons website.
Irvin, who has 40 appearances in seven seasons with Oakland and Seattle, should strengthen the loss against the Falcons who have only 17 caps this season, tied for fifth in the NFL.
"He will add to our rotation along the defensive line, while increasing the speed of our pass," said Quinn. "He knows our plan and our strengths, so we look forward to seeing him on the ground as quickly as possible."
Irvin, 31, had only six tackles and three sacks this season for the Raiders in last place and had seen his play time drop significantly in recent weeks. He tied a career high with eight sacks from last season.
