For the first time in weeks, the Atlantic is essentially silent, with the only system in place being Hurricane Leslie, which is moving rapidly towards the Iberian Peninsula.

The calm period is a welcome respite from hurricane Michael Category 4 that hit the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday, causing devastating damage and widespread blackouts.

Projections from the National Hurricane Center do not predict anything in the Atlantic Basin over the next five days.

Hurricane Leslie

Leslie, a storm named since September 23, is expected to die by Monday. Prior to this date, the storm is expected to cause dangerous winds, waves and heavy rains over parts of Portugal and Spain later today and Sunday.

At 8 am, the center of Hurricane Leslie was located 500 km southwest of Lisbon, Portugal.

Leslie moves to the east-northeast near 38 mph. An east-northeast movement with a gradual decrease in speed is expected until Sunday.

On the forecast trail, the center of Leslie will be approaching the southwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula today and will be heading inland over Portugal and the Mediterranean. Spain, tonight and Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are around 75 mph. Leslie is expected to turn into a tropical post tropical cyclone following a hurricane later today.

A weakening is expected after Leslie traveled inland, over the Iberian Peninsula, later today or early Sunday, and the post-tropical cyclone is expected to dissipate. here Sunday evening or Monday.

Hurricane force winds extend outward to 100 km from the center and tropical storm winds extend outward to 205 km.
