OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Playing 20 games without interruption, bouncing off a hard defeat or late rally, manager Bob Melvin is certainly enjoying his good performance at Oakland Athletics.

Stephen Piscotty hit a two-point single, Matt Chapman and Matt Olson each doubled in a race, and the A jumped on the New York Yankees early for an 8-2 win on Wednesday night.

Jed Lowrie added a single starting point, Mike Fiers (11-6), who escaped a goal scored by Giancarlo Stanton's double and a pair of steps. Proud is 4-0 in six starts since coming to Oakland, and the A have won all of their outings.

The A's moved to less than 3 1/2 of the Yankees' games to get the best LA joker, also staying at 3 1/2 of the Astros, leader of AL West.

"These guys play hard," said Fiers. "I like to play for this team. They support me, no matter.Long first run, we go up and ride good at-bats and we have four. You can not ask for anything more and I think that kind of m's installed too. "

The fencers eliminated the team in sixth place, and the only success he left after the first was Aaron Hicks' first goal in the fourth before Gary Sanchez's two-point homerun wins.

The Princes grabbed five hits in six innings, giving three hits while the A's finished a grueling 20-game series without a day off.

"Grinding over the past 20 days, it's finally over in mid-August against the teams we've faced, pretty impressive," Melvin said. "I told them that after the game, they play with the same pace every day."

New York right-hander Luis Severino (17-7) had 200 strikeouts for the second season in a row, but was eliminated with two outs in the third for his shortest outing of the season. He allowed six points – five won – on six hits.

Severino threw two wild shots that scored separate points in the first, when Sanchez also had a pair of balls past.

"Some misunderstandings in the plate, a doubled lead, then another double, a lot of stuff, some interference with the signs, it was a mess," Severino said. "I have to do a better job, I need to communicate more with Gary, I have to try to improve it."

Plate problems

Sanchez's 13 balls matched Martin Maldonado of the Angels for most of the majors. Sanchez was tied in the big league with 16 last year. He was also behind the arena for 37 wild fields after being part of 53 in 2017.

The Sanchez circuit was the first since June 20 against Seattle.

HALL OF FAME

The first class of the Hall of Fame Athletics was consecrated at a pre-game ceremony.

Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Rickey Henderson and the late Jim "Catfish" Hunter, as well as Reggie Jackson and 1989 World Series MVP Dave Stewart were part of the class. The same was true of the late A owner, Charlie Finley.

TRAINER ROOM

Yankees: RF Aaron Judge took low shots and hit a tee. He also did baserunning and outfield work while he did not break his right wrist on July 26th. "Another positive step forward," said manager Aaron Boone. "He builds a little momentum." SS Didi Gregorius, injured in his left heel injured on Aug. 19 in a collision with Toronto's Kendrys Morales, defeated a field single, had another good day of baseball and plans to activate it Friday in Seattle. "In a lot of areas, it's one of the heartbeats of this club," Boone said. It is unlikely that Clint Frazier will play again this season as he continues to treat the symptoms of concussion. He was examined Tuesday by renowned Micky Collins of the University of Pittsburgh and Frazier returned to Tampa, Florida. … 3B Miguel Andujar had the evening to give him a two-day break without a match on Thursday.

Athletics: LHP Brett Anderson (tense forearm) tossed a mound and throws an extended pitcher on Saturday as he gets up and sits three times throwing about 15 shots per session. If all goes well, it could be activated to start the next road trip starting Tuesday in Baltimore.

FOLLOWING

Yankees: RHP Masahiro Tanaka (10-5, 3.83 ERA) takes the mound in the first game of the Friday series in Seattle with an extra day of rest. He is 6-0 with an ERA of 2.34 in seven career starts against the Mariners and 3-0 with an ERA of 2.17 in four outings at Safeco Field.

Athletics: After Thursday's rest day, Chris Bassitt (2-3, 3.19), RHP, launches the opening game of a home weekend against Texas.
