The Institute of Human Virology (IHV), Baltimore honored the Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan to effectively contain the spread of the Nipah virus in Dr. Robert C Gallo, co-founder of the Institute and renowned virologist, who co-discovered HIV and developed the Elisa test kit, handed a souvenir to Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, at a ceremony at the IHV campus, people in Kozhikode and Malappuram district in May and June.

Vijayan is currently on a US tour and visited IHV, Baltimore to acquire acquaintances first-hand sessions on the operation of the institute to set up Virol's world-class ogy Institute in Kerala. Vijayan had discussions with Dr. Gallo, researchers and researchers from the institute and studied the possibility of collaboration with the Kerala government for the establishment of the institute of virology in Kerala .
