An African-American nanny sues a wealthy mother who inadvertently sent her a racist text and then sent her out of her embarrassment.
Lynsey Plasco-Flaxman, a mother of two, reportedly sent her husband, Joel Pacoe, a message saying "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" after realizing that the woman was black.
But she accidentally sent her to her new nanny, Giselle Maurice, 44, who had just started working for the family on the first day of work.
After realizing her mistake, Ms. Maurice claims to have been fired and paid for a single day.
A history teacher fired for forcing black students to pose as slaves says that she is the victim
The nanny is suing her former employer.
Ms. Maurice told the New York Post: "[I want] to show them, look, you do not do things like that. I know it's discrimination.
Ms. Maurice, who moved from North London to New York, claims compensation for the £ 48,000 salary she had to earn before she was fired.
She had to earn $ 350 a day for a six-month placement in the family.
She says that Ms. Plasco-Flaxman said she was expecting a Filipino nanny, because the nanny previously, who was also African-American, had not been good at her job.
Since then, the couple defended his gesture by claiming that he was not racist, but no longer trusted Ms. Maurice to care for her newborn.
Mr. Plasco told the newspaper, "But do you want to put your children in the hands of someone you were rude to, even if it was by mistake?"
However, the nanny said that despite the racist message, she would not have acted differently towards the baby.
She said, "It's my reputation. Why should I do something to a baby? I was willing to work with her and prove to her that she was wrong, but that was her conscience and she could not work with me anymore. & # 39;
The couple says that there has never been a contract and therefore must not compensate Ms. Maurice.
