The best WR candidate leaves Georgia before visiting Miami

Miami's most important in-season recruiting weekend of the year is on the horizon and one of the Hurricanes' main goals for the 2019 promotion is back on the market. Jadon Haselwood, considered by 247Sports.com's composite ranking as the country's biggest prospect as a wide receiver, pulled away from his long-standing verbal commitment to Georgia on Tuesday night.

Haselwood, who had initially committed to the Bulldogs of his hometown in 2016, announced its disengagement via Twitter shortly before midnight.

"It's a very difficult decision for me," wrote Haselwood, "but I think it's the best decision for me right now."

Miami has been moving in the right direction with Haselwood for a while now. The 5-star catcher originally visited Coral Gables in May, while he was in South Florida for a 7-on-7 Adidas tournament. He returned to campus in July to participate in the annual Hurricanes Paradise Camp. This weekend, he will be among the many potential candidates to officially go to Miami for his home game against his rival, Florida State. The moment of the disengagement of Haselwood means that the upcoming visit is more than a mere formality.

Although still verbally engaged in Georgia, Haselwood had always suggested that he make several official visits. Beyond the Bulldogs, the Hurricanes and Auburn were frequently mentioned programs by the elite candidates. For Miami, Haselwood is one of the few wide receiver targets to have a place in the 2019 category if it wants to.

Even for a 5-star prospect, Haselwood is not typical. The senior at Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia, is the 3rd player in the 247 sports composite and his 0.9972 score on the site is the highest for a potential candidate since Dorial Green-Beckham and Stefon Diggs in 2012.

Until now, the Hurricanes have signed a commitment from a wide receiver of the 2019 promotion with Jeremiah Payton. The 4-star receiver is also expected to head to the Hard Rock Stadium Saturday for the Miami match against the Seminoles.
