The body of a young groom was discovered in Costa Rica on Saturday, ending a brief search for the groom after he was swept away by the waters during his honeymoon in Costa Rica earlier this week .

Josh Byrne, a native of Hudson, Mass., Was married last weekend with his wife Bianca on a New Hampshire farm, according to WCVB, a subsidiary of Boston ABC.

The family announced the sad news Saturday night.

"It is with heavy hearts that we concluded our search for Josh," said the family in a statement. "After working around the clock, our search and rescue mission ended today with the recovery of Josh's remains."

They thanked state officials, Niki Tsongas and Kate Hogan, Senator of Massachusetts, Ed Markey, the Red Cross, the State Department, and the US Embassy for their research efforts.

"They just got married and it's their honeymoon in which they spent all that money and a few days later, and that happens," Cousin Nick Gibson told WCVB.

The couple had gone to the west coast of Costa Rica after their wedding and was in Playa Dominicalito when he had tried to cross a bridge but had been washed away by the floodwaters. Byrne, 30, could not swim and could not go ashore.

"They looked like a sudden flood, they were trying to cross a bridge, their car was dragged into the river," said Tony Tufo's family friend at WCVB. "They both went out, they were both trying to make their way to the coast, but Josh, he was swept away by Bianca."

Josh's brother and father went to Costa Rica on Friday to take part in the research.
