A brave young Irish woman who has undergone a "last chance" treatment against cancer in the United States finally returns to Ireland.

Shauntelle Tynan, 20, diagnosed with histiocytosis X – a rare form of cancer – has announced her return to Ireland after being declared free from cancer.

The native of Carlow said on Facebook: "16 bags of registration later.

"We only had weeks of constant packaging / donations!

"Finally, do not hesitate, next stop … Ireland."

Shauntelle's family, who run a separate Facebook page documenting her journey to recovery, said on Oct. 11: "We arrive in the early hours of Friday here and the packing / cleaning operations are going well !!

"We are so close to the end and this week next week will wake up at home all together as a family for the first time in 602 days !!!!!

"What a trip it was !!!

"It's a unique Russian mountain, but against all odds, we're bringing Shan back home healthier than we ever imagined."

The family then thanked all the friends and family from Ireland and the United States who provided support during this difficult time.

They also thanked the Gavin Glynn Foundation and the Texas Children's Hospital for taking care of Shauntelle while there.

They added: "Thank you", two words do not seem sufficient, but we hope you all know the extent of their meaning. "

The family also asked people to consider making a small donation to the Gavin Glynn Foundation "which has given us such incredible support throughout this trip."

Langheran's multi-cell histiocytosis X was diagnosed in Shauntelle in 2015 and she left her home in Carlow to travel to Houston, Texas, with her family for specialized treatment.

More than 700,000 € were collected by friends, family and supporters for the treatment that saved his life.
