The Texans hung on to beat the Broncos, 19-17, on Sunday in Denver to get their sixth win in a row and head into the bye week on a positive note.

Denver’s Brandon McManus was wide right on a 51-yard attempt as time expired to let the Texans get away with the victory.


With the victory, the Texans are just the fourth team to start 0-3 and then win six in a row, joining the 1925 Giants (seven in a row), the 1955 Bears (six in a row) and the 1970 Giants (six in a row).

The Texans are off this week and will face Washington on Nov. 18 on the road.

After falling behind 17-16 late in the third quarter, the Texans put together a 51-yard drive that set up a 37-yard field goal by Ka’imi Fairbairn for the margin of victory.


The Broncos had a chance late as Case Keenum drove Denver to the Houston 33 but McManus’ attempt was wide right.

Deshaun Watson finished with 213 yards passing and a pair of TDs, and DeAndre Hopkins caught 10 of those for 105 yards and one secore.

The Texans’ first drive was played out to perfection. A big run by Lamar Miller on first down. Two big passes from Watson to their new receiver Demaryius Thomas, the former Bronco, to set up the first touchdown, a Watson pass to rookie Jordan Thomas for 7 yards.

The Broncos responded on their second drive but had to settle for a field goal.

That’s when it got interesting.

The Texans drove to the Denver 21 but Alfred Blue was stopped short on fourth-and-1. Denver took over but gave it right back when Devontae Booker fumbled on a screen and Justin Reid recovered for the Texans.

It didn’t take long for Deshaun Watson to hit a wide open DeAndre Hopkins in the end zone for the touchdown. But Ka’imi Fairbairn’s extra point pushed wide and the lead was 13-3.

The Broncos closed the margin to 13-10 after Case Keenum engineered a 4-play, 82-yard drive with big passes to his tight ends before Booker scored on a 14-yard run.

The Broncos had a chance to tie when they went for a 62-yard field goal by Brandon McManus that went right.

The Texans capitalized on the miss in the final seconds on a pair of Watson passes to set up Fairbairn for a 46-yarder. He missed but his first attempt but the Broncos had called timeout to ice him. On the next attempt, Fairbairn was true and the Texans led, 16-10.


The Broncos took the lead in the third quarter as Keenum led a 12-play, 81-yard drive that he finished with a third-down touchdown pass to tight Jeff Heuerman for 12 yards and a 17-16 Broncos lead.

That just set the stage for the Texans and Watson to rally and the defense to hold on.
