(UPDATE: Josh Gordon at the Patriots is finished, according to to NFL Network, which reported that the Patriots gave up a fifth-round pick.)
The Browns are about to trade receiver Josh Gordon to the Patriots (according to to NFL Network), the question for Jets becomes: Gordon will torment them?
The Jets, of course, visit the Browns on Thursday night. They do not host the Patriots until week 12 and do not visit them until week 17 – a lot of time for Gordon with quarterback Tom Brady & Co.
Gordon, who turned 27 in April, is still reasonably young. But he has not done much since his outstanding season in 2013, when he was a member of the first All-Pro team, and had 1,646 yards (most in the league that year) and nine touchdowns.
It was Gordon's second season in the NFL and it seemed like he was going to become a star. But his career has been hampered by addiction and addiction issues.
Gordon played five games in 2014 (303 yards and zero touchdowns) and five in 2017 (335 yards and one touchdown). He missed the seasons 2015 and 2016.
He played in one game this season and got a hold for 17 yards. But it became a tired act for the Browns, who planned to release him if they could not find a trading partner.
But they found one, in the Patriots, who will not tolerate any nonsense from Gordon and may be able to turn him into a productive player – and a potential Jets hangman.
Studs, Dolphins-Jets duds
Yet it's been a while since Gordon did a lot of things in the NFL.
The positive for the Patriots is that Gordon is cheap. His salary is $ 790,000 this season. It is expected to be a restricted free agent next year, so the Patriots – if they want to keep it – will be able to maintain relatively cheap contract control until 2019.
