Once in their place or on the ground, they waved the lights – called bombs of the army – throughout the duration of the two and a half hour broadcast of the BTS, making them vibrate to the rhythm of music, triggering various patterns. Demonstrations of severe devotion are the norm in K-pop, but even in this universe, the fervor generated by the seven members of the all-male BTS – RM, J-Hope, V, Jimin, Jungkook, Suga and Jin – is exceptionally intense. .
And the vibrant, sometimes seismic concert of Saturday night, with an exhausted crowd of about 40,000 people, was a kind of dialogue between artist and fans, a collaborative exercise. It was the last show of the band's Love Yourself tour and the group's first performance in this country. Some BTS fans – we call them the army – have been camping for almost a week to be the first to receive the general admission bracelets so they can stand as close to the central stage as possible. .

After several years in which the most ambitious and ambitious K-pop artists made a breakthrough in the United States, BTS has become the most successful K-pop act in this country. Released in May, "Love Yourself: Tear", his third album, became the first K-pop album to appear on the Billboard album list. At best, BTS music is dense and versatile, on the verge of chaos. "DNA" began as Shawn Mendes-esque's pop guitar before turning to volcanic club music. "I Need U" was primal pop-R & B. "Airplane pt.2" had flickering piano cabaret and Latin pop. "So What" had the aerial frenzy of a winner of Eurovision. A mid-range blend of older songs claimed that the stadium scene was the score of an action movie. Hard rock music and industrial electronic music collapsed into one frenetic sequence.
Towards the end of the show, "The Truth Untold" featured the sweet harmonies of the four singers (Jimin, Jin, Jungkook and V) and was immediately followed by "Outro: Tear", which showed the versatility and reach of the three rappers (J-Hope, RM and Suga). Each member was also given a solo tour – V's sensual R & B on "Singularity" was a highlight, and on "Serendipity", Jimin performed some ballistic maneuvers and "Matrix".
For all the expert choreography and planning that presided over this performance, what made her particularly approachable was the casual air of the limbs, which remained calm on the surface while working furiously underneath. They understood the importance of small gestures: in several places, on stage and in filmed interludes, two members were briefly holding hands or hugging each other, showing a playful and ingrained warmth.
The overall chastity of the show shook adult sexuality, as when Jungkook participated in a dance program developed for "Fake Love," raising his shirt to reveal a quick glimpse of the abs. (The outfits were elaborate, ranging from the mariachi art house to the S & M pirate to the modernist B-boy.)
And some of the most appealing moments were humorous moments, reducing the group's self-esteem with a touch of irony and wit. At the beginning of "Singularity," V caressed himself through a blazer draped over a hanger, and during "So What," one of the other members ran his hand through Jimin's hair as he watched the camera with fright. the eyes.
These winks were also a nod to the faithful, a way to fan fans and literate them on stage. This implicit conversation continued at the end of the show, with a series of heartfelt speeches in which each member professed his love for the army.
At one point, Jimin began to cry, but the most moving moment was RM, the best anglophone in the group. He told how delighted he was to be in New York, "the place where the music that changed my life was born." He then explained the theme of the tour and the band's recent music.
