The Buccaneers cut Chandler Catanzaro and signed Cairo Santos

According to ESPN's Jenna Laine, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicked out kicker Chandler Catanzaro. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media also reported that the Bucs signed Cairo Santos.

Tampa Bay worked Santos on October 26th.

Santos spent the training camp with the New York Jets before landing with the Rams for a pair of games. He made five of his six placement attempts with L.A., as well as five of his six extra point attempts.

Santos was injured in 2017, playing only two games, but was consistent with the Kansas City Chiefs.

For his career, Santos scored 84.1% of his goals and 95.7% of his extra points. Santos has difficulties with kicks beyond 50 yards (53.8%), but he has money out of 40.

Tampa Bay should feel lucky to land in Santos at this point of the season. In the face of multiple organizations struggling to find a consistent kicker, the Bucs have managed to secure one of the best options on the market.

The Buccaneers have been desperate for stability at the placekicker for a decade. Hopefully, Santos will be able to reverse the trend and bring consistency to the basic game.

Unfortunately, Catanzaro was not the solution. Tampa signed an expensive contract in March.

Both for his field placement attempts and for his extra points attempts, he posted low career figures at 73.3% and 85.2%, respectively.

It was disappointing to see how badly Catanzaro behaved this season. If it was not for its 59-yard win over the Cleveland Browns a few weeks ago, Tampa might have cut it in week seven.

In his last game with the Bucs, he missed two goals on the board as Tampa Bay fell to the Washington Redskins, 16-3.
