Although it is possible to beat Texas A & M, it will be difficult for the Mississippi State football team to qualify. If they can really do it, the season will be saved.
At present, the Mississippi State Football Team is not ranked and has an overall record of 4-3 and a 1-3 SEC record. Seven games in the 2018 season and the Bulldogs are doing everything in their power to maintain the possibility of eligibility for the cup. This is not how this season should have gone. Now the state needs something miraculous to cope with a dismal year.
MSU needs a rehearsal of what happened with the Texas A & M 2016 game.
The 2016 season has been difficult to live. In the lead up to the Bulldogs match against Texas A & M, MSU was in trouble and had only 3 wins out of 3 for the year. Meanwhile, A & M has been 7-1 on the season and ranked as the 4th best team in the country. ESPN's chances of winning began with the addition of 80.5% chances for A & M to win at Starkville. The Aggies were a 10.5 point favorite on the road in Starkville.
In other words, there was little reason to expect the Mississippi State to win the match. A & M was on a good start and the Bulldogs struggled to beat Samford the week before.
And yet, Mississippi State beat A & M convincingly in this game.
More than Brown and white nation
After the MSU defense forced a 3 and was sent off, Nick Fitzgerald ran for 74 yards and put the ball in the end zone in the Bulldogs' first offensive game. On the second MSU record, State was slightly more methodical and placed it in the end zone on a disc for 3 minutes and 16 seconds. In first orders, the Mississippi State was able to take a 14-0 lead and set the tone for what the match would be like.
While Fitzgerald is trying to find confidence and answers, it would be good for the Bulldogs if they could do the same thing this season. MSU was physical, surpassed Aggies and controlled the whole game. The Bulldogs had 29 first tries against A & M's 14. State had more than 37 minutes in possession time.
Fitz totaled 180 yards and two touchdowns in 20 runs, while Aeris Williams totaled 140 yards and a score of 24 carries. Beyond the expected success on the field, Fitzgerald also threw the ball very well, making 58% of his passes for 204 yards and two more touchdowns.
MSU beat Team No. 4 in the 35-28 nation. The Bulldogs started quickly and then controlled the rest of the game. It was unexpected, but it was understandable to see how the Mississippi State football team imposed itself.
This match has provided a positive point and optimism in a dark season.
Beating the No. 4 team in the country allowed a struggling team to win a victory in a year in which it desperately needed it. The win showed that the Bulldogs could play physical football and face their opponents.
To start the season, the Bulldogs lost to South Alabama in an embarrassing way. A few weeks later, MSU struggled to beat UMass. Then, in three consecutive games, the state football team of Mississippi was defeated by Auburn, BYU, then Kentucky. The victory over Texas A & M showed that a dysfunctional team had a future and a potential for improvement.
This year the Bulldogs are dysfunctional in a slightly different way. MSU's offensive was inept against the SEC's opponents and the Bulldogs could not beat anyone in conference, with the exception of Auburn.
A win over Texas No. 16, A & M, could go a long way towards changing what this season could become. If the Bulldogs continue to lose to the opponents of the conference, it will be difficult for this team to come to a bowl game. However, if MSU can change things, as he did late in the season against A & M, things could be saved. At this point, the Bulldogs have no way of doing what they should have done this year.
The Mississippi State Football Team can still theoretically win 8 wins this year. To do that, the Bulldogs must beat the Texas A & M.
The Bulldogs need this win, just like in 2016, but it remains to be seen if the Mississippi State Football Team will get it.
It is almost impossible to claim that the Mississippi Bulldogs do not need to win this game. If the Bulldogs can beat Texas A & M, this season can be a little revived. But can the Mississippi State Football Team beat the Aggies?
The Mississippi State defense is talented enough to win this victory. The Bulldogs have one of the most talented defense lines in the country and should be good enough to force Kellen Mond and the Aggies to make several mistakes. There is no doubt about MSU's defense in this match.
The offense deserves however to be regularly questioned.
If the Mississippi Bulldogs succeed this game, they will have to be able to score points. It is unclear if the Bulldogs can actually do it in SEC mode. Fortunately, this game is at home. Maybe something good can happen here.
