SEAL BEACH, California (WPVI) –

Every day for 30 years, John Chhan has welcomed his guests to Donut City, Seal Beach, California, from 4:30 am. He and his wife, Stella, have become a staple in the community.

For him, it's nice to work with his best friend and partner.

"It's great fun, we work together, we stay together," said Chhan.

The donuts are good, try the apple donut – but it's better to get there early. The fresh baked treats fly like never before, often forcing Chhan to close early. Customers said it was the goal.

"Many people come to buy us a lot of donuts and give me more time to visit my wife," Chhan said.

Last month, Chhan's wife had a cerebral aneurysm. She was taken to the hospital and continues to recover in a nursing home. It was extremely difficult for their family.

"I have a heart ache," said Chhan.
Customers quickly heard the news and wanted to help. So, they catch dozens by dozens.

"The sooner we can bring him home and get support for her, the better for both of them and for the community," said client Charlie Dickinson.

Thursday, the trays were cleaned at 10:30. This gentle gesture of the community leaves Chhan grateful beyond words.

"Oh, I feel warm, very grateful," he said.
