A Tennessee couple bonded earlier this month, 25 years after crossing their path when they were both sick at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Joel Alsup, who was at age 7 diagnosed with osteosarcoma, and Lindsey Wilkerson, who was battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 10, even chose the hospital as a sacred place to exchange her wedding vows.
"When I met this guy, when I was following a treatment, I admired him," said Wilkerson about her husband who had been amputated from the arm before being declared without cancer. "I admired him, I thought he was an incredible person. We have grown in our friendship over the years.

The pair lost touch when they went separately for college, but resumed contact after taking jobs at St. Jude. According to the hospital, Wilkerson, 37, was on tour from day one and immediately recognized Alsup's smile. The crush of childhood that blossomed between the two came back to life.
"I finally had the courage to tell him that I loved him, not only that I loved him," said Alsup, now 38, according to Fox 13 Now. "Fortunately, she felt the same thing."
They settled on September 1st for their wedding date, marking the first day of Children's Cancer Awareness Month, and were invited by Brent Powell, a chaplain who met Alsup at the start of his treatment.

The couple had other former patients at their wedding and hope their story will help inspire others.
"I would never have understood that I would be sitting here by her side as a wife, having the privilege of being married because of the place that saved our lives", said Wilkerson.
