All cases come from the capital of Rajasthan, western India, and some of these victims are migrant workers from eastern states such as Bihar.

This is the third Zika virus outbreak in India since January 2017.

According to the Indian Ministry of Health, a control room has been activated at the National Center for Disease Control to monitor the situation regularly.

The country's Minister of Health, JP Nadda, has deployed a seven-member team to Jaipur to continuously monitor the situation and assist with control and containment operations.

What happened to Zika? Is the epidemic in the Americas over?

Zika is usually a mild illness. It can cause a viral fever similar to dengue or chikungunya, accompanied by fever, rashes, body aches and headaches. But many people infected with the Zika virus do not even develop symptoms.

The real concern is with pregnant women, because the virus can cause microcephaly, a neurological disorder that causes babies to be born with an abnormally small head, which can lead to serious developmental problems and sometimes death. A Zika infection can cause other birth defects, including eye problems, hearing loss and slower growth.

Pregnant women with possible symptoms of Zika virus infection (fever and rash, and other symptoms such as red eyes or joint pain) should seek immediate medical attention.
