Welcome to the score of the year in college football, even if it's just a score at halftime.
The Citadelle scored a shot-on-goal 48 yards at the end of the second quarter to equalize at halftime of Alabama 10-10, No. 1. This is not only the first time of the year that a team is tied with Alabama at the half-time of a game, this is the first time a team is within two tide scores at the break.
The Citadelle tied the scoring at 7-7 earlier with a 45-yard touchdown by offensive midfielder Dante Smith. This was the first touchdown against Alabama in over 170 minutes. Neither LSU nor Mississippi State scored a single goal against the tide in Alabama's last two games.
Bulldogs social media has taken note.
Alabama coach Nick Saban is probably secretly happy that his team is being tested by a smaller opponent. This gives him a chance to show that the tide should not be complacent and correct the mistakes and problems of the team.
The FCS opponent begins to get paid to be the opponent of Alabama before the annual Iron Bowl against Auburn on Nov. 24. We'll see if Alabama will kick them out in the second half.
