The "codeword" lesson stops a potential abductor in Arizona

PINAL County, Arizona (KTRK) –

Arizona Police assigns a little girl a quick thought and a lesson learned at home to help her avoid an attempted kidnapping.

"I was at work yesterday, my daughter called me crying tears, and she told me that one guy had tried to take her," said the mother of the daughter, Brenda James.

Good Morning America reports that the 10 – year – old boy was walking with a friend when a man in white SUV would have parked next to them and reportedly said that the little girl 's brother had been injured and that' s right. she had to get in her car.

According to the authorities, the girl asked the man a code word and, as he did not know it, he left.

"In fact, we found it a few months ago," James said. "So it was a very recent thing, from a story I read, that reminded me that I was small and had a code word."

The girl was unhurt.

"My daughter was prepared and it did not happen, she is safe at home," James said.

"This child's mother did a great job teaching a child a code word, potentially saving that girl's life," said Sheriff Mark Lamb of Pinal County, Arizona.

James said she hoped that her daughter's story would encourage other families to find their own code.

"We just talked about people who can pick you up and people who can not take you, and in this crazy emergency … it saved my daughter's life," said James.
