Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich took the risk of avoiding a draw against the Houston Texans, and his dice roll avoided a draw. The problem is that his ill-advised decision gave the Texans an easy attempt to win a silver-platter placement on a silver plateau that they managed to win 37-34.
After both teams traded goals in the extra 10 minutes, the Colts recovered the ball in less than two minutes and needed only one more bet to win.
The race started well for Indianapolis, with Andrew Luck completing the 12-yard and 9-yard passes on the first two games. But Jadeveon Clowney then exploded with a clutch bag that pushed the Colts in a third time.
A 17-yard gain on the third try allowed the Colts to come close to the center of the field, but Reich had been decided to make an expensive decision. Indianapolis scored a total of four points on his 43-yard line 27 seconds from time. The choices were:
- Punt and probably get a tie
- Go there and have a chance to win, but risk giving the ball to the Texans in a position to win
Reich opted for the latter and it exploded in his face.
After the game, the Texans were already close to the goal, but they managed a first 24-yard pass that allowed a winner to win a 37-yard victory. Ka'imi Fairbairn drilled it and the Texans won their first win of the year.
There was every reason to question the call, but Reich told reporters after the match that it was not a difficult decision:
Frank Reich, 4th floor: "I'm just going to answer it now. We do not play to equalize. We go there 10 times out of 10. "

His only regret was to ask for a break after failing to disqualify the Texans:

The Houston victory ended a run of 10 defeats in November 2017. Reich's decision allowed the Texans to clinch the fourth quarter and allow the Colts to return to the game.
The Texans led to double digits for most of the day and led 28-17 in the fourth quarter. Then the Colts came back with a touchdown at 7:41 and then – after a Texans shot on goal – a decisive touchdown with 45 seconds to go.
The Colts have even led in overtime, which is surprisingly rare for a losing team.
The Colts are the 5th team to lose a game after leading in overtime in the history of the NFL.
They were also the first (Carolina Game 2015).

But all that mattered in the end was that Reich wanted so much to avoid a tie that he had yielded to the Texans.
