The committee abandons the rule of the movement of the carcass

MADISON, Wisconsin (AP) – The Rules Committee of the Legislature has voted against regulations banning hunters from moving deer carcasses out of counties affected by chronic wasting.

In August, the Department of Natural Resources adopted emergency rules on CWD, which require deer growers to upgrade their fences in one year and to prohibit hunters from moving carcasses out of infected counties or adjacent counties.

Deer farmers have been hesitant about fencing costs and GOP lawmakers have stated that hunters are outweighing movement restrictions.

Wisconsin Public Radio announced that the Rules Committee voted Monday, 6 to 6, against the restrictions on carcasses. The committee tried to remove the closing requirements, but the attempt failed 4-6.
