More than 32 hundred tonnes of hamburger and ground beef steaks sold at Walmart and in other retail stores are being recalled due to Salmonella concerns.
The Food Security and Food Inspection Department of the US Department of Agriculture announced Thursday that JBS Tolleson was recalling 6,500,966 pounds of various raw beef products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Newport .
Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial diseases.
Eight patients provided receipts or purchaser card numbers, which allowed FSIS and CDC investigators to trace the source of Salmonella bacteria in JBS ground beef products.
The survey identified 57 patients from 16 states with onset dates from August 5th to September 6th of this year.
The items were shipped to Walmart, other retail outlets and institutions across the country.
Raw non-intact beef products, including ground beef, were wrapped on various dates from July 26, 2018 to September 7, 2018.

The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within 12 to 72 hours of consuming the contaminated product.
The disease usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment. In some people, however, the diarrhea can be so severe that the patient has to be hospitalized.
Older adults, infants and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop serious illness. People affected by an illness should contact their health care provider.
FSIS is concerned that some products may be frozen and in consumer freezers.
Those who have purchased these products are urged to discard them or return them to the place of purchase.
FSIS recommends that all consumers prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen products, safely, and consume only ground beef cooked at a temperature of 160 ° F.
Other pieces of beef should be cooked at 145 ° F and allowed to rest for at least 3 minutes.
The only way to confirm that ground beef or other pieces of beef are cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful bacteria is to use a food thermometer that measures the internal temperature.
