"The Conners" Spoilers: First episode 1 of "Roseanne" Spinoff

After months of controversy and curiosity, but mostly controversy, The conners will debut Tuesday at 8 am / 7h on ABC. However, on Friday morning, the network invited a handful of outlets – including TVLine – to review the Roseanne first spinoff as well as episode 4 (with the return of Johnny Galecki's David). The only caveat: we had to agree not to "discuss, involve, or otherwise reveal what is happening to Roseanne Conner's character" in our previous reports. Just about everything else was a fair game. With that in mind, here are 10 judgments and teases inspired by the "new" series most anticipated this fall. (Meanwhile, read Michael Ausiello's "A" review here.)

* The spinoffs improve about three months after the events of the rebirth of last spring. The opening scene stages the whole family – including Bev – reunited in the kitchen.

* The new opening title sequence arrives at an unexpected point in the episode – and it's perfect.

* D.J.'s wife, Geena (regular newcomer Maya Lynne Robinson) returns from Afghanistan early in the first. She is very religious and likes to give D.J. a difficult time.

mary steenburgen the conners first role mystery* Last man on earth Survivor Mary Steenburgen plays a pivotal character (whose name was mentioned in last season). Roseanne the comeback). She shares an unforgettable scene with John Goodman.

* Becky is in a relationship again. Similarly, Justin Long is presented as a potential love interest for Darlene and he plays a lot of typing.

* If you enjoyed the second episode of the Mark-based Revival, you'll greatly appreciate a Series B story in which Darlene's nonconforming son turns to Dan for advice on boys.

* Unless we missed it, there is not a single picture of Roseanne at the Conner's.

* Juliette Lewis fits perfectly in the role of Blue, David's hippie-dippy girlfriend. She quickly exceeds her limits with children (especially with Harris), giving Darlene a reason not to enjoy it.

* Dan is again in conversation with David, although some of the words he uses are super morbid (and really funny).

* After Roseanne's pill dependence last season, another family member begins to seriously tackle her addiction issues.
