The 2018 Paris Motor Show is an opportunity for automakers to present recent models, but also to debut with unusual concept cars that could eventually hit the road. Here are some of the most innovative attractions to appear in France.
Peugeot E-Legend
This electric muscle car (pictured above) has stole the show, acting as a showcase of Peugeot's future design (which may come back someday in the US) and also showing what a future fully autonomous car could look like inside. The exterior design is breathtaking, while the interior is crazy enough to remind you that the E-Legend is a concept and it will not happen in the showrooms tomorrow. "Wood-look" panels, a massive 49-inch curved screen and a small retractable steering wheel (for autonomous driving) combine the past and the future.
Mercedes EQ Silver Arrow
Technically, this premiere took place in August at Pebble Beach, but it was Silver Arrow's first appearance at an autoshow. Plus a "show car" that something that Merc is actually planning to build, it's a modern version of the W 125 Grand Prix championship car from 1937. Many current electric cars (type of Tesla excluded) like the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Bolt are rather boring. With a unique central seat, sensual lines and a scandalous wood interior, Mercedes has built a superb EV that has nothing to envy.
Smart ForEase
The Mercedes Smart brand has just turned 20 and to celebrate, Smart unveiled the ForEase. It's a concept that plays on the iconic ForTwo of the brand, but which detaches the roof and makes it much more … playful. It looks like something coming out of the movie Cars – a kind of crushed sports car, with seductive lines and bumps in the back of the occupants, but with caricature proportions for which Smart is famous. In fact, we like it a lot, but we can not really explain why. Perhaps because it shows that the normally dressed Germans of Daimler can be a little playful when they want to be.
Renault EZ Ultimo
Renault calls EZ Ultimo a "mobile lounge" and says it could be what helicopter driving looks like. Autonomous, electric and available on demand, the pod-on-wheel could transport travelers from city to city or spend the night in the city. Featuring leather, wood and marble (!?), The interior is a luxurious luxury cocoon protecting the occupants of the outside world. Renault is considering the car as a kind of extension of the luxury experience of a hotel or an airline.
