The balance sheet of the collapse of a coal mine in eastern China has risen to eleven, and ten miners are still stranded underground, state media reports said.
A week after the disaster, rescue teams cleared the debris, the remaining miners apparently lying 74 meters deep, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.
He said the rescuers were progressing without giving any indication as to when they were hoping to break through. More than 300 people were in the mine at the time of the collapse.
China has long had the world's deadliest coal mines, but safety has improved considerably with more modern equipment, better training and the closure of most of the smaller and more dangerous mines.
China is by far the largest consumer of coal in the world.
