A Victorian man who deliberately toppled emus on a country road near the South Australian border said his actions were the "biggest stuff" in his life.

20-year-old Jacob MacDonald was charged on Friday with numerous animal cruelty and traffic violations after the video he shot at the time

MacDonald, pictured, is from Cowangie, a small town just a few miles from the South Australian border.

Yesterday, speaking publicly for the first time since the incident, he said that while running on emus as they crossed Pallarang Rd had seemed funny at first, the reality quickly caught up with him.

"I thought they'd come out but nah, they just stayed there," MacDonald told Channel 7.

"For starters, it was funny, I stopped to see that they were all dead, but it was not too funny after that. It's the biggest deal of my life. I'm not proud of it, it was a silly idea.

The video was posted on social media, causing widespread disgust and condemnation. The RSPCA confirmed Friday that the pictures, described as shocking and horrible, had led to a national investigation to find the man.

The Victorian police based in Ouyen, near Mildura, questioned MacDonald and charged him with several offenses. He will appear in court in November.
