Primera Air, which has expanded its operations in the United States earlier this year and has recently announced more flights for next summer, is closing its doors. The European budget company announced in a statement announces on its website that it will cease operations as of Tuesday, October 2, but that it will effectively be closed on Monday, October 1.

Primera has canceled seven flights between the United States and Europe scheduled for Monday, blocking passengers. These flights, according to FlightAware and Washington Dulles flight tracking officials: London Stansted-Washington Dulles and Washington Dulles to London; Paris to Toronto and Newark Liberty; London Stansted to Newark Liberty; and Toronto and Newark Liberty in Paris.

"On behalf of the Primera Air team, we would like to thank you for your loyalty," the statement said. "On this sad day, we say goodbye to you."

He did not provide information on ticket refunds.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, who oversees Washington Dulles, said travelers with tickets on Primera should visit PrimeraAir.com to get more information. The website has not been updated with any refund information.

Primera launched its year – round service between Dulles and London in August, with five weekly flights, and planned for others.

The airline's closure comes less than two months after Primera introduced three new US-Europe routes, with fares ranging up to $ 149 each way. The airline planned to fly to Brussels from Boston, Newark Liberty and Washington Dulles.

Primera, based in Latvia, announced an expansion to the United States in August 2017. The airline has announced six flights between Newark Liberty and Boston to London, Birmingham, England and Paris on Airbus A321neo aircraft. The flights started earlier this year.
