The father of a missing autistic boy from North Carolina blames himself for his disappearance as research continues

The father of a missing 6-year-old autistic boy has been charged with the disappearance of his son this weekend as authorities continue to hunt around a North Carolina park for signs of the child .

Maddox Ritch, 6, has been missing since Saturday and was last seen in Rankin Lake Park, about 20 miles west of Charlotte, with his father, Ian Ritch, and another adult who did not been identified. Ritch told ABC "Good Morning America" ​​on Wednesday that his son has gone ahead of him and disappeared from his point of view.

"We were walking on a track around the lake and he decided to take off from me … I did not think about it and he was a little too far from me," Ian Ritch said in an interview. "As soon as I got to the point where I could not see him anymore, I started to panic, I could not see him anywhere."

Ritch said that he thought that the research team – made up of hundreds of FBI officials, Gastonia police and Gastonia firefighters – would have found the first day of his disappearance.

"I think I should have caught him, not let him go too far," Ritch said. "That's what upsets me."

"It's hard to sleep in. I feel guilty because I can go to a house and lie on the bed," Ritch added. "And he's there in the woods, sleeping on the ground and it's very upsetting."

The FBI announced Tuesday that it was offering a $ 10,000 reward for information leading to the return of Maddox. Her mother Carrie Ritch also pleaded with tears for her son to be found.

"I'd like you to be at the park on Saturday and see Maddox please … call the line of advice. Please … I just want my baby to come home, please, said the devastated mother. "Maddox is my whole world and my reason for living."

The 911 call made public on Wednesday by the police showed a park employee that Maddox's parent and officials had "searched everywhere" for the child, FOX46 reported.

"The parents are looking here," hears the park employee.

Maddox is described as 4 feet, 45 pounds with blond hair. The last time we saw him, he wore an orange T-shirt "I am the man" and black shorts with white stripes.
