A puzzled passenger who was apparently aboard the Royal Princess on Tuesday wrote an encrypted message on Cruise Critic.com's cruises website.

The 19-ship ship left Port Everglades on November 9 for a seven-day cruise to the southern Caribbean and is expected to return to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.

"Last night, something bad happened to Royal Princess," read the message. "At 4:30 am, a vessel-wide safety announcement was broadcast directly to the cabins. The security personnel were invited to meet on Deck 7. Another announcement was made shortly after, with this announcement only being broadcast in the corridors and public areas.

The cruiser continues to report that the 3,600-passenger ship moored in Aruba, the captain announced that there had been "a serious incident and that no one could leave because the local authorities were coming on board".

The passenger was apparently confused about what had happened, but there are more and more details about "the serious incident".

The cruise company based in Santa Clarita, California, confirmed the death of a 52-year-old US passenger in a statement. According to the Associated Press, the FBI and the Aruba authorities are currently conducting an investigation.

The news website of Aruba, Diario, reports that the woman fell from an upper deck onto a lifeboat after struggling with a "muscular" man who had seen her smother it before the fall.

"We are deeply saddened by this incident and offer our sincere condolences to the family and those affected," continued the cruise line. "An official cause of death has not been announced."
